Thanks to everyone who has supported luciandjoe bookbinding this year.
I've been able to meet a lot of amazing and talented artists at the markets, and some super friendly and supportive customers.

I have some stock still available at in.cube8r in Geelong (Moorabool St) until Christmas Eve, as well as a permanent presence in the little bookshop in Portland (Percy St).

As for 2012 - look out for an announcement about the launch of our etsy store and what market plans are in store.  It's going to be another exciting year for us.

last market opportunity for some quality Christmas shopping

The final Made Artist's Market for the year is on this coming Saturday in Port Fairy.
I've got a range of Christmas goodies, including bunting and trees (shown in the photo below) and sets of Christmas cards.

On the present front (for loved ones or yourself!), I'll have my usual range of fabric covered journals which make great diaries, travel journals or photo albums; and an ever-changing range of upcycled books.  If you haven't seen my upcycled books yet, imagine beautiful hardcover books which have been remade into blank paper journals.  Each has a surprise inside - the paper itself, hidden pockets and very special papers.
There is a large pile of garlands on sale, as well as some very special framed Parisian photographs which would made beautiful presents.

This is our last Made market for the year and they've been a fantastic success, so we hope to see you again on Saturday, both new and returning customers.

Piccadilly Market - Sunday 20th November

It's a fantastic opportunity to get some Christmas shopping (and some most important personal buying) at the upcoming Piccadilly Market.

I've got a lot of fully handmade books using quality fabrics like these shown, and every book is unique.

This an example of some of the garlands on sale, that would make great Christmas decorations.

I've also got a great range of Christmas bunting and cards available for the first time.

Made market in Port Fairy

It seems like so long ago since we had a market, so I'm especially excited that there's a Made Artist's Market in Port Fairy this coming Saturday.
9am - 2pm at the Church Hall.  It's up the lane beside Bella Claire in Bank St.  Easy to find and some great handmade work to peruse.

In.cube8r opening this week

I set up my stock today at in.cube8r in Geelong - 127 Moorabool Street.
It opens on Wednesday, so if you are nearby in upcoming weeks, go and check it out!
All artists take 100% of their pricing so it's a great way to support local and emerging artists.

exciting announcement - featuring a shop in Geelong

I think that it's very exciting news - luciandjoe bookbinding are going to be stocked in a new store opening in Geelong on Wednesday 12th October!!!
The shop is a new location for in.cube8r, a gallery-style retail concept that nurtures emerging artists and allows their work to be accessed by the public every day.
It's located at 127 Moorabool Street and I'll post some photos later in the week after I head over to set up shop.

I'm also madly preparing for next weekend's Made Artist's market in Port Fairy and am getting ready to unveil some new products.

Port Fairy market - Saturday 15th October

Spring has finally come around and it's time for another Made Artist's market in Port Fairy.
It's from 9am to 2pm, at the St John's Anglican Church Hall (just off Bank St).

Festival of Words Booksellers Market - Saturday 10th September

The Festival of Words (formerly known as Ex Libris) is being held in Port Fairy next weekend, and luciandjoe bookbinding will be there on Saturday in amongst the booksellers in the Reardon Theatre.  We'll be nestled in amongst the sellers of real books, with words in them.  I might have to hide the upcycled books towards the back of the stall so that the other secondhand books on sale don't get nervous!

Piccadilly's Winter Market, July 2011

If you didn't make it to come and visit luciandjoe bookbinding in person in Geelong on the weekend just gone, here are some of the products that you missed.

Here you can see both the fully handmade fabric covered journals on the left,

as well as an example of the upcycled books to the right of them (green cover).  It made a beautiful and truly unique [new] book.

fully new journals and some with a mixture of both.

You can get an idea here of the other products in stock at markets as well: cards, little notebooks and at the back you can spy the beautiful paper flowers and globes made by Suzanne.

The market is held in the Waterfront campus of Deakin Uni, and I'm up on the mezzanine level in that beautiful space.

Whilst arrangements are in full swing for the upcoming Piccadilly Market in Geelong on the 31st July, I've just finalised my invitation to the Port Fairy Ex Libris book fair, on the 10th & 11th September.  Should be an exciting weekend of books, writers, books and associated fun.

Upcoming Markets

Luciandjoe Bookbinding will be at the upcoming Piccadilly market on Sunday 31st July.  It's held in the gorgeous cafeteria area of Deakin's Waterfront campus.

Also on the horizon, the next Made Artist's Market is on Saturday 15th October.

It was another successful market, this time with people braving the cold and 'a little bit wet' conditions.

new stockist: Blarney Books & Art, Port Fairy

I'm very excited to announce that Blarney Books & Art in Port Fairy is now stocking a small collection of my books.  Drop in and see their amazing collection as well as the current exhibition.

Such a successful day today - an amazing amount of people through the hall all day.  It was constant, without a pause and it was fantastic!
The other stallholders had some beautiful products as well and I look forward to our next market on the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June.

Port Fairy's Made Market this weekend

The inaugural Made Market is being held this Saturday in Port Fairy and I'm rather excited about it!
It's been months of preparation, getting my stock levels high enough to cover a table has been a challenge, but being able to have more products available to stock in the little bookshop is great too.

If you're able to visit, the market is being held in a church hall, just around the corner from the delicious Bella Claire's in Bank St.  You can see it from the corner of their store as you head out with your coffee in hand.
8.30am - 2pm.

I haven't bought a card in years

I don't mean to brag, but seriously, I haven't.  I make all of my own cards and have started making some of these to be sold in the little bookshop and at upcoming markets (details soon!).

The gorgeous cards on the left of the photo are Stephen Conlin's beautiful architectural cards.  They are stocked exclusively in Australia in the little bookshop.  His work has been published in travel guides and historical references.
In the wooden tray in the centre of the photograph are some of the cards that I've been producing for the little bookshop: Keep Calm and Read On, and our local buscrolls.  They've been a popular seller, listing some of the unique names of our Portland region.

Specialty Books

I have been making quite a few new styles of books and will publish them soon.  For now, this is a photo of one of the more specialty books that I have made.  It is about 20cm square, covered in a beautiful soft grey gabardine fabric and has map end pages and inserts.  The concertina pages fold in and around the map pages, reminiscent of a real map that needs to be folded in a certain way.
I'm looking forward to making more books like these.

Magnolia Square Market

I was lucky enough to be in Melbourne on the weekend of the magnificent Magnolia Square Market.  I've always wanted to visit it and was delighted to see that it lived up to its reputation.
I highly recommend it and will try and visit one again this year, for both the shopping pleasure and pure inspiration.

This style of fabric-covered notebooks are becoming a favourite standard.
They're A5 in size, with sketchbook quality papers inside.  Each is covered in beautiful fabrics with unique endpapers.  Open one up and you might find some pages from an old dictionary, or in the case of the floral one on the left, handmade paper made from Tasmanian fibres.
Each has a different closure.  These two feature popular options, with elastic & buckles on one and ribbon & buttons on the other.
Some (like the green & white one you can spy in the top left-hand corner) has featured buttons and an attached bookmark instead.

Megan's beautiful store, the little bookshop, is in Portland and is the only place that I'm selling books at the moment.
Her store stocks quality fiction, both classics and new releases, as well as cards & journals and unique collectibles.

gorgeous fabrics

One of the things that I love about creating these books is the wonderful materials that I can play with.
This fabric is a linen with printed images of famous world landmarks.  It's very thick and isn't easy to work with, but I love its texture and the way that it works with the black gabardine and little metal adornment on the side.

This style of book has sketch-quality pages made into signatures, which are then all handsewn to the spine - you can see the long stitching on the outside of the spine.
